ABOUT THE PANEL
Anne Schuster, Moderator
Thompson Coburn LLP, Chief Marketing Officer

Anne is a senior marketing strategist who designs and executes innovative firmwide marketing and business development programs.

During her 17 years with Thompson Coburn, Anne has championed the expansion of digital marketing platforms and enabling technologies that help the Firm serve its clients better and dramatically improve brand positioning and process. She has led the launch of two proprietary software development initiatives and expanded and improved the firm's CRM system to support sales and client relationship efforts.

Anne works collaboratively with the Firm's business development leaders to align marketing and sales strategies and improve sales efficacy. In her work with practice groups and individual attorneys, Anne thinks creatively to develop results-driven marketing plans that empower attorneys with varying levels of sales experience and position them for success. She has extensive experience in the successful integration of lateral attorneys and strategic approaches for law firm mergers and market expansion.

Supported by a hand-picked team of award-winning marketing professionals and technologists, Anne helps attorneys capitalize on their strengths, reach wider audiences, and make a true impact in the market.

Before joining the legal industry, Anne gained significant professional services experience while providing key support to PricewaterhouseCoopers in San Francisco and serving on one of PwC's national pursuit teams.

 

Mike Andrews, Panelist
Husch Blackwell LLP, Director of Operations

Mike uses his professional operations experience to ensure a sharp focus on client needs and a collaborative effort on every matter.

His work includes overseeing the daily operations of two business units, encompassing 100 attorneys. He initiates projects by building the best teams for a given matter, which means providing the right level of industry experience to meet client objectives from Day One. He respects each client’s communications practices and aligns those with the firm to ensure seamless collaboration and teamwork.

Mike also is responsible for strategic planning, financial management, communications and performance improvement with his teams of attorneys. He excels in the marketing and business development areas, always working with attorneys to expand existing client relationships.

Mike was previously Chief Marketing Officer for a regional law firm and Director of Business Operations for a global accounting firm. Mike came to Husch Blackwell because he believes the firm understands that the future of the legal industry hinges on providing superior service. He finds his contribution to that evolution is both exciting and rewarding.

Maureen Farr, Panelist
Stinson Leonard Street LLP, Senior Business Development Manager

Maureen has more than 15 years of marketing and business development experience with law firms. She has been involved with nearly every aspect of legal marketing and business development during this time. In her current role, she provides business development support to attorneys in Stinson's Business & Commercial Litigation, Labor & Employment and Intellectual Property & Technology Divisions. This includes business development coaching, lateral onboarding, client research and the preparation of proposals. In addition, she works closely with Division Chairs to develop business plans and budgets on an annual basis.

An active member of the Legal Marketing Association, she was President of the Midwest Chapter of the Legal Marketing Association in 2016 after serving on the Board of Directors for several years. Maureen also helped establish the St. Louis City Group in 2011. Maureen has spoken at various LMA programs, including the annual conference in 2015.  

 

Susan Gamel, Panelist
Thompson Coburn LLP, Director of Administration

Susan manages the administrative and operational functions across Thompson Coburn's five offices.  As a member of the firm’s recently-established New Partner Task Force, Susan is involved in researching and reviewing internal and external approaches to the recruitment, onboarding and long-term integration of lateral partners.  She also coordinates the firm’s administrative departments for the initial onboarding of new partner hires.  Over her career, Susan has been involved in partner integration to varying degrees, including in her multiple Director-level roles at Holme Roberts & Owen, her Administrator role at Lathrop Gage, and as COO of a smaller firm.

As Director of Administration, Susan is responsible for the Firm's secretarial, word processing, reception, operations, records and administrative support personnel, as well as the firm’s leases, facilities, furnishings, and outsourced office services.  She manages vendor relationships, supervises construction projects, is actively involved in the firm’s commercial insurance, and leads safety, security and sustainability efforts. Susan is a strong supporter of cross-departmental involvement in initiatives to produce the most effective results.

A graduate with Distinction from Stanford University, Susan is a passionate and practical yet creative problem solver focused on process improvement and efficiency. She is an active member of the Association of Legal Administrators, and a former officer and board member at the local level. She has written and edited articles in the Law Practice Management Section of The Colorado Lawyer, and has presented to ALA and other organizations on a variety of topics, most extensively on contracts.  She is also a Certified Legal Manager, a certification earned by less than 4% of ALA members nationwide.

Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard, P.C., Senior Business Development and Marketing Manager

With 13 years of experience in professional services marketing, Mark has a proven track record in marketing program design and execution, marketing communications, branding, corporate communications (internal and external), recruitment initiatives, public and media relations, advertising campaign design, copywriting, and corporate speechwriting.

Marc has worked at all levels in marketing, branding and communications from initial assessment and development, to writing and execution of a full range of marketing, branding and communications initiatives in a variety of channels including print, webinar/seminar, events, radio, internet and social media.

Marc has extensive experience working directly with members of senior management, revenue-generating internal clients, support management and staff at virtually all levels of several organizations, successfully building effective, positive working relationships with professionals from all disciplines.
