President's Message - September 2020

Happy Fall! We have had so many fun virtual events this summer, and we have a lot more planned to finish up the year.

I want to start out by congratulating a few of our members. Kara Brostron, with Lashley & Baer, and Donna O’Donnell, with Affinity Law Group, were both named Best Bosses by the St. Louis Small Business Monthly magazine. Additionally, Kara was awarded the Unsung Legal Heroes award and was also recently named as the Chairperson for the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, 2021. Please join me in congratulating Kara and Donna!

As a reminder, there is a weekly “chat” each Tuesday at 3:00. This is a great time to chat with your fellow ALA members about any issues you are facing within your Firms. Zoom instructions are sent out each week for these chats.

The PurpleStride walk Against Pancreatic Cancer is Sunday, September 27th at 10:00 a.m. There will be a group meeting at the Boathouse to walk together, and we would love to have you join us. You can register to walk on the website.

As you are aware, the City and County restrictions on indoor gatherings remain in place. In light of these restrictions, the Board is busy planning the events through the end of the year virtually. The first event coming up is the Business Partner Expo during the month of October. The theme of the Expo will be “Everyone’s a Hero”. There will be two one-hour events each week. I encourage all of you to attend as many of these sessions as possible. For each session you attend, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $500 gift card at the end of the Expo. Please watch your email for more details on the upcoming Expo.

Lastly, I would like to take a moment to remind everyone of the ALA’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion. Our city and our Country continue to face many challenges. ALA National has many resources available to assist you and your Firms with any diversity and inclusion challenges you may be facing. You can find resources, educational presentations and a Diversity Toolkit, among other information here https://www.alanet.org/about/diversity.
