Message from the President
It’s that time of year again, the changing of the guard in the ALA Gateway Chapter. Brenda Deertz wrapped up her presidency by obtaining the highest honor in earning the President’s Award of Excellence and now it is my turn to take over and try to fill her shoes. No pressure, right?
I am very excited about leading our Chapter forward and I hope you are as well. With the help of an extremely strong and experienced Board, I hope to bring education, innovation and a lot of fun to the upcoming year. My main focus for the year is on advancing innovation. There are few industries changing as much or as fast as the legal industry. If you’re not sure how to keep up or what to do next, you’re not alone. Most legal management professionals are feeling the same way and ALA Gateway can help. Between our monthly educational meetings and constant networking you are never more than a phone call or e-mail away from finding a solution to your problem.
And speaking of innovation, Legal Management Magazine is an excellent resource to go to when you are looking for answers. Listed below are only a couple articles of what May’s edition has to offer.
For a complete copy of the Legal Management Magazine, please visit the ALA website: http://www.alanet.org/education/publications/legal-management-magazine-current-issue
Have you ever thought about increasing your legal expertise? If so, the Certified Legal Manager exam is the way to go. ALA's Certified Legal Manager (CLM)® program provides the opportunity to demonstrate you have mastered the knowledge, skills, and abilities to operate at a high level of expertise in the field of legal management.
There are many resources available to help you study for the CLM exam. One of those resources is the Certified Legal Manager Study Guide. Our Chapter will be conducting a drawing for one lucky member to receive a free study guide. If you are interested in entering the drawing for the free study guide, please e-mail me at Nichole.Cornwell@HuschBlackwell.com. The drawing will take place on June 13, 2018.
For additional information on the benefits of the CLM program, please visit ALA’s website: http://www.alanet.org/education/certification.
We have had a couple of very busy months. Back in March, we wrapped up our Annual Bunny Hop event and prepared 2,500 plus Easter Baskets for the following organizations bringing some much needed joy to children’s lives.
- Boys & Girls Town of Alton
- Child Center – Mary Grove
- Community Women Against Hardship
- Connect Care
- Every Hope Children’s Home
- Great Circle – St. James Campus (f/k/a Boys & Girls Town of Missouri)
- Great Circle – St. Louis Campus (f/k/a Edgewood Children’s Center)
- Griffin Center
- Holy Angels
- St. Louis Crisis Nursery
- St. Vincent Home
- Voices for Children
The smiles on their faces say it all! Thank you to all our business partners and members who contributed to and participated in this important event, including the business partners who helped sponsor the event, Bowers & Associates, CBIZ, Gilsbar Management Services, Linda Estlund, Millicare, Office Essentials, Royal Cup, Tropical Décor, Woodard Cleaning & Restoration, Alaris, and GFI.
In April, we had the pleasure of participating in a Social Connection at Parker’s Table with valued Business Partners Ronnoco and Acropolis Technology Group. If you have not had a chance to attend a Social Connection, I would highly recommend attending the one coming up in July, which Brenda Deertz is actively planning. The Social Connections are not only fun events, they are a great opportunity to get to know and spend time with our business partners.
In May, 17 members of our Chapter had the pleasure of attending the ALA Annual Conference in National Harbor, Maryland and it was an awesome experience. If you’ve ever thought about attending one of our Annual Conferences, I would encourage you to do so in the future. The education and networking are unmatched. Plus it is a lot of fun. Our Chapter dinner that takes place during the Annual Conference has become one of my favorite events of the year.
Our Chapter also partnered with the St. Louis Paralegal Association to sponsor the breakfast for the Annual Paralegal Day. It was a great event and helped us to strengthen our alliance with the St. Louis Paralegal Association. And finally, we are sending two of our members to Bench and Bar this year on May 30th and 31st to exhibit and enhance the visibility of ALA through our alliance with Bar Associations. Look for more details about how we successfully partnered with our alliances in next month’s newsletter.
