Message From The President

It seems that fall is already in the air, kids are back to school and the traffic has picked back up. We were sorry to see one of our members and the co-chair of our Membership Committee relocate to Denver, but we wish Dennis Mapes the best with his new home and employment. We had a fantastic Business Partner Expo in August and we are already planning for the next year’s event. Your feedback is vital in that planning. If you have not completed the survey, please see the Member Survey sent on August 21st (please complete even if you did not attend the Expo) and see the Business Partner Survey sent out the same day. See photos from the Expo on Facebook @ALAGateway.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those suffering from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Many ALA Chapters gathered together and donated at least $5 per member to support the relief efforts and the Gateway Chapter did as well. The Association of Legal Administrators donated $3,500 on behalf of its members. If you want to help, there are many places to donate. Go to Red Cross/Hurricane Harvey or see many of the other options listed below.

The Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund of Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, which is administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.

Houston Food Bank and the Food Bank of Corpus Christi are asking for donations.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is reporting a critical shortage, and has extended hours at all of its San Antonio-area donor rooms. To donate, call 210-731-5590 or visit their website for more information.

Carter BloodCare covers hospitals in North, Central and East Texas. To donate, call 877-571-1000 or text DONATE4LIFE to 444-999.

To help animals suffering from the disaster, visit the Houston Humane Society or the San Antonio Humane Society. The Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has set up an animal emergency response hotline (713-861-3010) and is accepting donations on its website.

The Texas Diaper Bank in San Antonio is asking for diapers and wipes, which can be dropped off in person or mailed to 5415 Bandera Road, Suite 504, San Antonio, Tex., 78238.

The United Way of Greater Houston flood relief fund will be used to help with immediate needs as well as long-term services like minor home repair. Visit their website to donate or text UWFLOOD to 41444.

We recently received a Business Partner testimonial from Acropolis Technology Group. We were so amazed with their testimonial, we sent it to ALA headquarters and they plan to use it as well. It can be found on our website, but I want to share at least the first paragraph.

Acropolis Technology Group takes great pride in our relationship with the ALA Gateway Chapter of greater St. Louis. Having been a part of the ALA for 7 years, we attribute a portion of our success to the lasting relationships we have built with fellow members and business partners. Furthermore, participating in the ALA’s eventful calendar of activities has proven their commitment to not only the members, but to the people of the St. Louis area. The ALA benefits Acropolis in two primary ways. First, it gives us a platform, structure, and the resources to give back to the community that we serve here in the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan area. Second, it helps Acropolis become a better business through relationships with other members. We get to share in the communal task of making every member and member firm better.

Several of us are on our way to the Regional Conferences in both Las Vegas and Nashville. Look for our pictures on social media.

We have two events in September and I hope you can join us for each. Our chapter meeting is on Wednesday, September 20th at the Greensfelder Hempker and Gale law firm. (Their renovated space is very nice!) The topic is Greening Your Business 101: Cost-Effective Strategies and the speaker will be Jean Ponzi, Missouri Botanical Garden’s Green Resources Manager. Click here to register. Also, on September 23rd, we will be working with Brightside St. Louis for our Community Connection. Join us as we help to make our region, cleaner, greener and more environmentally sustainable. It seems that GREEN is our September theme. Register Now.

We have a social connection event planned for October 5th at 5:30 and details are being finalized at this time. Look for that invitation soon.

It’s not too early to be planning for our Law Leadership event in the October – Partner Compensation should be a hot topic. Please calendar for October 18th at Kemoll’s Restaurant and mention it to your law firm leaders. Register Now.

Have a great rest of the summer and enjoy the fall! If you have any questions regarding the ALA or our chapter, please contact me or any of our board members. You can find all of our contact information on our website at ALA Gateway Chapter Board of Directors.
