Message From The President

It’s hard to believe November is here and the holidays are soon to be upon us. I have also passed the six month mark as President and Nikki Cornwell is already planning next year, which begins in April. Dare I say time is flying by? I know many of us feel that way each year.

We are pleased to announce our diversity scholarship winners this year. Both Samantha Rhoden of Sandberg Phoenix & Von Gontard and Rhonda Thompson of Polsinelli were awarded funds towards their tuition and books.

Business Partner Renewal will be starting in the near future. Please watch for our emails, check your spam mail and add @ala-gateway.org to your accepted email address list.

ALA 2018 Membership Renewal has already begun. Members should have received an email in October from the Association of Legal Administrators. Our Gateway membership committee is also working towards your 2018 renewal. More information will be forthcoming in December.

The ALA is seeking IDEA (innovation, development, engagement and advancement) awards from chapters, committees, regions, individuals, firms, and business partners. They are in search of programs, services and events that improve our ALA chapter and/or legal communities. Click here to review the information or address your questions to awards@alanet.org.

Are you familiar with ALA’s VIP Program? You can find member-exclusive VIP services and discounts from national business partners on services such as cyber security, technology consulting, office products and video conferencing.  See ALA VIP Program for more information.

Did you know about ALA’s Cyber Chapter? It is a virtual chapter that contains a library of sample documents and solutions to your problems and hosts monthly webinars. Their November 21st webinar will be from 2:00 to 3:00 (Eastern time) and is titled “Reclaim Control & Get More Done.” You can view their site and register for webinars here.

Do you read ALA’s Legal Management digital magazine? If you are a faithful reader, you may have noticed a quote from one of our members in the September issue in an article regarding outsourcing. The article stated:

When Sandberg Phoenix was looking to outsource, it also came back to the clients. “I look at the firm’s operations as having two clients — internal and external,” says Jeffrey Feltz, Director of Finance and Facilities. “The goal is always to provide better service to clients; however, often the way to achieve that is through providing important efficiencies to the internal clients, i.e. the firm’s attorneys. With outsourcing, we were looking to gain efficiencies for the firm that could help drive more value into certain key support roles. For instance, by removing copier tasks from our legal secretaries, they could provide more valuable support to the firm’s attorneys.”

Congratulations, Jeff!

We recently held our New Member’s event where everyone learned more about the value, benefits and opportunities of being a member of ALA and the Gateway chapter. Those attending were the first to see our new chapter video recently created regarding membership. Find photos from the event on our Facebook page at ALA-Gateway.

Please make plans to attend the two events we have remaining in the calendar year. On November 15th, we will be back at Vue 17 at University Tower to hear Kitty Ratcliffe, President of Explore St. Louis, speak about the State of St. Louis. We all have an interest in this. Members of the Legal Marketing Association will join us for this meeting as well as our Business Partners. Please plan to attend. Register now!

Our final event for 2017 will be our fabulous Holiday Luncheon! It will be at Moulin on December 13th. We will be collecting items for Camp Hope, an organization honoring our wounded soldiers. Gift cards and monetary donations will be accepted. They desire gift cards from Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, MasterCard, Visa and American Express. You can register at ALA Gateway Holiday Luncheon.

I hope to see everyone before the end of the year! If you have any questions regarding the ALA or our chapter, please contact me or any of our board members. You can find all of our contact information on our website. ALA Gateway Chapter Board of Directors.
