Message From The President

Where did the years go? It doesn’t seem long ago that Lisa Waligorski asked if I wanted to be the Treasurer or Secretary of the chapter. She didn’t ask if I would be one or the other, simply which one. I told her I would commit to being secretary only at this time and then the years flew by and here I am as President of your Gateway Chapter. I'll admit that it was never my ambition, but as the time drew near, I began to get excited. Why? 1) Our Past President, Kara Brostron, made it look so easy. If only I can adopt some of her laid back style. 2) We have a strong board with both experienced and new committee chairs and members. We strive to get everyone involved and we are so excited about the new members on board. 3) We have a great year ahead and it’s going to be fantastic!

My main focus this year is on diversity. We are in the process of completing our ALA Diversity & Inclusion Scorecard. We are participating in more diverse events, including the Harris-Stowe State University Career and Graduate School Fair and the Pride Parade, we are continuing our relationship with the Diversity Awareness Partnership, and SLIP program; we have updated our website to include Dimensions of Diversity, our Diversity Mission Statement, and listing Heritage months. We also recently completed our annual Bunny Hop where we assembled 2,450 Easter bags for:

  • Boys & Girls Town of Alton
  • Child Center – Mary Grove
  • Christian Family Services
  • Community Women Against Hardship
  • Connect Care
  • Covenant House
  • Great Circle – St. James Campus (f/k/a Boys & Girls Town of Missouri)
  • Great Circle – St. Louis Campus (f/k/a Edgewood Children’s Center)
  • Griffin Center
  • St. Louis Crisis Nursery
  • The Evangelical Children’s Home
  • Voices for Children
