Message from the President

Cruising Along the Path to Success

Welcome to a New Term for the Gateway Chapter! I am excited and honored to serve as your Gateway Chapter President for the 2013-2014 term, and I am fortunate to have a great crew along side me. We are coming off the heels of a terrific year for our chapter, and I plan to continue many of the successful initiatives of the past year, as well as forging ahead into uncharted waters with some new initiatives.

At this time, I would like to introduce the Officers who will help me keep our ship on its course:

President-Elect Lisa Waligorski, CLM – the First Officer who is the second in command and will assist me in running the ship smoothly, by guiding us through another successful business partner renewal process. Lisa will also serve as one of our CLM study group leaders.

Vice President Jeff Feltz – the Second Officer who is third in command and responsible for overseeing our strategic alliance partnerships and planning the holiday party, as well as serving on our Business Partner Relations Committee.

Secretary Kara Brostron – the Chief Radio Officer who is responsible for all communication operations regarding monthly board and educational meetings, as well as keeping the minutes for those meetings.

Treasurer Paul Dalziel – the Chief Purser responsible for all accounting and finances on board the ship.

Past President Julie Hill, SPHR – the Cruise Director in charge of all onboard entertainment as she Chairs both the Social Connections Committee and Nominating Committee, and serves on the HR Section Committee.

Please visit the Committees Page to see who has agreed to get on board the ship as Committee Chairs and Members.

The year is off to a busy start already! Huge thanks go out to ALA President Steve Wingert, CLM who attended our monthly educational meeting on March 20, 2013 and installed our slate of officers. Huge thanks also go out to Region 3 Business Partner Relations Officer Debbie Elsbury, CLM, who attended our Annual Board Retreat and business planning meeting on April 3, 2013. We came away with some great ideas for the year ahead!

First and foremost, we have some top notch educational sessions planned this year for our monthly meetings, the HR Section meetings, and our annual Legal Forum/Expo. You won’t want to miss out on these excellent educational opportunities. Another focus this year will be on membership engagement and development, centering on engaging Gen X and Gen Y, membership retention, and engaging large firm administrators, as well as seasoned administrators. We will look for ways to improve our business partner program, and build on our strategic alliance partnerships both in Missouri and Illinois. Our CLM study group leaders already have plans to expand and improve the CLM study group, so watch for the upcoming schedule. Additional focus this year will be placed social media and enhancing the ALA Gateway brand. Please check us out on Facebook and Twitter if you haven’t done so already. We also have some exciting community service opportunities and diversity initiatives in the works for this year.

As you can see, we have quite a busy year ahead. We will need all hands on deck to get everything accomplished. If you would like to volunteer for any committees or special projects, please contact any board member. We are always looking for additional volunteers. This is your official call for all members to Get On Board!

Your Captain,
Patty Barbachem, CLM
Gateway ALA Chapter President, 2013-2014
