Hello! My name is Angela Louis and as a Legal Administrator I am constantly learning from those around me in both my personal and professional life.
The ALA community is a great place to learn and expand your knowledge base and I would like to welcome you to the Gateway Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. This is a great resource for your daily challenges and successes and I would like to thank you for visiting the ALA Gateway Chapter's website.
In reference to learning and expanding your knowledge, I would like to share a short story from my own personal life.
My oldest son went in for his kindergarten screening and the teacher wanted him to pick out the colors, numbers, etc. The teacher asked him to look at some pictures and tell her which one started with the letter "D". He looked at the pictures for a couple of minutes, then looked up at her and pointed to a Zebra and said, "Let's make this one a "D"ebra." As the teacher was telling me this story she said she has never had anyone manipulate the answers to fit – he needed a "D" word and found one even though he made it up. She let this answer count. Kids at this age adapt and make things work, they are not afraid to fail.
I translate this lesson into thinking outside of the box and looking for unique ways to move forward in our challenging work lives. Sometimes, I think we loose the creativity in our daily lives and forget to look around us and to reach out to others that we can learn from.
As a member of the organization, our chapter allows you to network with your peer group and in many circumstances you will find that you are not alone. With the Gateway Chapter, you have many opportunities to meet with members and vendors during monthly meeting days, HR section meetings, bunny hop, vendor fair, community challenge weekend, and several different social events throughout the year.
It is a great time to be a member of the Gateway Chapter. As we approach the 2010 - 2011 year, we have many talented people on the committees and would welcome any additional help for initiatives over the year. ALA is a wonderful resource and I encourage those that you know to join.
